How we hire teachers

Families trust us with their child's learning, so we take hiring seriously. Here's every step, what you'll do at each one, and what we're looking for.

From application to first class

  1. 1

    Apply

    What you do

Fill in the form for your role and record a short voice note. It takes about five to seven minutes.

    What we look at

Your subjects, curricula and grades, your hours, and how you sound explaining something.

  2. 2

    Application review

    What you do

Nothing to do but wait to hear from us.

    What we look at

Whether what you teach matches the students we're placing, and the basics: a laptop or desktop to teach on, and the hours you can give.

  3. 3

    First interview

    What you do

A first conversation about how you teach.

    What we look at

Commitment, competence and character: the three things we score at every interview.

  4. 4

    Second interview

    What you do

A closer look at your subject and your classroom craft.

    What we look at

How deeply you know your subject, the curricula and grades you'll teach, and how you handle different learners.

  5. 5

    Recorded audition

    What you do

Short tasks recorded in Qlive Pulse, on your own time, usually due within a week. For example, explaining a topic to camera.

    What we look at

Qlive's academic team watches every task and marks it against a rubric. If a task needs another go, you may be offered a retake.

  6. 6

    Training invitation

    What you do

Read the invitation and accept it on your status page.

    What we look at

It sets out the training and the indicative pay bands for your subjects and curricula.

  7. 7

    Training

    What you do

Live sessions plus activities you work through in Qlive Space, each with a short video of you teaching. You get two attempts at each.

    What we look at

Online teaching, talking to parents, Qlive Space, using AI as a teacher, planning, assessment and data privacy.

  8. 8

    Offer

    What you do

Read your offer, with your exact rates, and accept it on your status page.

    What we look at

A final confirmation, then your profile and the Educate app are set up.

  9. 9

    Your first students

    What you do

Say yes to class invites that fit your subjects and hours.

    What we do

Matching you with families who need exactly what you teach.

How will I know where my application is?

You get a link to your own status page in Qlive Connect. It shows which stage you're at, and it's where you accept the training invitation and your offer.

Is training paid or free?

Training is free. There is no fee and no deposit. If anyone asks you to pay to teach with Qlive, it isn't us.

Does finishing training guarantee me classes?

Not by itself. Classes depend on the students who need your subjects, curricula and hours. Keeping your available hours accurate in Educate helps: marking yourself free when you are not means fewer classes are offered to you.

Why might an application not move forward?

The most common reasons are not having a laptop or desktop to teach on, pay expectations well above the role, or spoken English that isn't yet at the level our families need. A missing voice note is another.
